TFN Virtual Live, 11 August 2020

We're excited after another wonderful evening of virtual crowdfunding at TFN Virtual Live on 11 August.

Over $100,000 was pledged for Dress for Success, Word Travels and workRestart to programs that provide education, skills, training and employment opportunities for disadvantaged people in Australia.

  1. Project #1: Dress for Success

    Dress for Success empowers women to create financial independence and exists to remove barriers that prevent women from entering or re-entering the workforce. The organisation will be pitching at TFN Virtual Live to develop a digital portal to enable female jobseekers to remotely access a full range of career support services to build up their skills, confidence, and knowledge to re-enter the workforce.     Meet the presenter: Amanda Webb, Deputy Chair

    Amanda is the CEO at ‘Xplore for Success’, an Australian consultancy that specialises in ‘Driving Gender Equality’ and Career development and advancement for women - and men. Amanda is an experienced and highly respected Human Resources practitioner with over 25 years business expertise.

     

  2. Project #2: Word Travels

    Word Travels inspires, engages and empowers young people and people from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds to perform their written word. Word Travels’ vision is to improve lives through great writing, powerfully performed, improving literacy, creative expression and life opportunities. The organisation is pitching to hire an Indigenous education officer who will engage youth in communities across rural and regional Australia, increasing Indigenous participation in Word Travel's programs, workshops, performances and events.     About the presenter: Miles Merrill, Founder & Creative Director, Word Travels

    Originally from Chicago, Miles is a writer, performer, facilitator and MC who combines poetry with theatre, experimental audio, hip-hop beats, stand-up and political critique. Miles introduced poetry slam to Australia, has performed at Sydney Opera House and internationally, and co-authored Slam Your Poetry. 

     

     

  3. Project #3: workRestart: Project Re-Stitch

    workRestart works inside the prison system to help train, educate, build resilience and create hope with incarcerated people, empowering them for a positive future. The organisation also helps to establish social enterprises that can provide employment opportunities on release. They will be pitching for Project reStitch to set-up an Industrial Sewing training area inside Borallon Training and Correctional Centre. This program will enable prisoners to learn in-demand skills to help get them a job on release, building confidence through teamwork, contribution, responsibility and leadership.     Helen believes in the power of second chances and fearless empathy. She has a proven track record bringing innovative ideas to prisons to reduce re-offending rates, founding Reboot, Australia's first digital studio in a prison and Pivot Prison Entrepreneurial Program.
