Providing facilities, accommodation and support for young homeless people in Australia.

One Voice provides facilities, accommodation and support for young homeless people in Australia. They run a mobile shower service to give young homeless people a safe place to maintain their personal hygiene, to access referral services and to receive essential products and clothes.

2015 Pitch
Funds raised: $27,001

The organisation pitched at TFN Sydney in April 2015 and raised $27,001 towards operational costs of running the mobile shower service in Sydney. This equates to an operational shower service providing 40 hot showers a day, six days a week, for 20 weeks - that’s 4800 fresh starts for the homeless and disadvantaged on the streets of Sydney.

The impact...

There are an estimated 30,000 homeless people living in New South Wales – that’s 40 for every 10,000 of us.  Over 10,000 of them are under 24 years old.  How many of these individuals – fellow citizens and members of our community - might pass by us every day?  How many might we know?

One Voice knows these young people and during winter, visits them around the city, bringing friendly chat and a few home comforts: a warm shower, new underwear, socks and hygiene products.

Today, One Voice operate three buses in 6 different locations with a team of 2 full time employees and 30 volunteers.  In April 2016, One Voice for Aussie Youth Limited was incorporated as an Australian public company Limited by Guarantee (CAN 611 937 216) and One Voice Print & Design has been launched as a social enterprise.

Brendan summed up the impact of the Sydney Mobile Shower Service for those making their way on the streets: “I’ve had experience on the street before.  I can’t begin to tell you how much this can change a life. Being able to interact with the rest of society and know that you’re clean, you’ve showered, you’ve started your day in a way that is the same as everyone else around you… it just brings you back into the community”
