Founder & Chair

Brett Dunstone is the Founder and Chair of Fruit Share Adelaide, a volunteer-led charity dedicated to reducing food waste and tackling food insecurity. Demonstrating strong community leadership, Brett built the organisation from the ground up into a network of more than 460 volunteers that has rescued over 40,000 kilograms of fresh produce for local relief partners across South Australia.

Adelaide, SA

Operating as a volunteer-driven initiative in South Australia, Fruit Share Adelaide harvests backyard and orchard produce to provide fresh, healthy food to local relief agencies.

Fruit Share Adelaide is a volunteer-led non-profit organisation that rescues excess, edible produce that would otherwise go to waste in South Australian backyards, orchards, and farms. By connecting tree owners with dedicated volunteers and community partners, the organisation redistributes freshly harvested fruit free of charge to schools, community centres, and food relief services supporting individuals facing financial hardship and social disadvantage. Through this practical local model, Fruit Share Adelaide simultaneously reduces environmental waste, improves community nutrition, and fosters meaningful social connections.

What they’re pitching for…

Fruit Share Adelaide is seeking support to execute a six-month Community Harvest Leader Project that will double its leadership network from 12 to 24 coordinators across South Australia. By resourcing a dedicated part-time Project Coordinator, providing specialized harvesting and safety kits, and covering regional travel, the initiative addresses the core bottleneck preventing further fruit recovery: local leadership capacity. Empowering local leaders will enable faster response times, deepen relationships with tree owners, and ensure significantly more fresh produce reaches community food relief programmes.
