Equity & Inclusion

One in four Australians has experienced discrimination, with marginalised groups facing the greatest disadvantage.

Despite growing awareness of the benefits of diversity and inclusion, resistance to these initiatives is increasing globally, with some dismissing them as unnecessary or divisive. Yet research shows that genuinely inclusive environments strengthen social cohesion, drive innovation and create greater economic opportunity.

At the same time, systemic barriers continue to exclude women, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ communities, seniors and culturally and linguistically diverse groups from fair access to education, employment and financial security.

Equity & Inclusion is one of TFN’s four impact funding streams for 2024-2026, alongside Thriving Young People, First Nations and Regional & Local Communities. Grassroots charities and social enterprises play a crucial role in addressing inequality, helping underserved communities build skills, confidence and pathways out of exclusion.

TFN backs these organisations through live collective giving events and Alumni support, raising vital funds and amplifying the voices of community leaders working towards a fairer, more inclusive future for all.

TFN Alumni working in this area include: Hotel Etico, Autism Swim, Bus Stop Films, Prison Network, Plate it Forward, BridgeIt, The Beautiful Bunch, The Social Outfit,
