FoodFilled is a youth-led food rescue organisation that tackles food waste and food insecurity by mobilising local volunteers to collect and deliver surplus food across Greater Melbourne.

FoodFilled is an innovative youth-led organisation addressing the intersecting challenges of food waste and food insecurity through a localised, community-powered model that fills gaps left by larger food rescue services. Working with food businesses across Greater Melbourne, it mobilises a large volunteer network to rescue and redistribute surplus nutritious food to food relief programs, while also building community connection through meaningful volunteering.

FoodFilled complements its core operations with youth-focused initiatives and education programs that raise awareness and equip young people with practical ways to be part of a more sustainable and equitable food system.

What they’re pitching for…

FoodFilled is seeking support to expand and deliver its Drive With Purpose program, a youth volunteering initiative that activates learner drivers to complete supervised driving hours while contributing to food rescue in their local communities. The funding will support the coordination required to recruit, onboard, train and safely manage young volunteers so they can complete regular supervised driving shifts that involve food collections and deliveries. This will strengthen FoodFilled’s ability to supply surplus nutritious food to people experiencing food insecurity, while building young people’s confidence, leadership and empathy, and improving equity through pathways that support learner drivers who face barriers such as limited access to a car or supervising driver.
