TFN and Bupa Foundation Announce Major Partnership to Launch “Healthy People, Healthy Planet” Crowdfunding Event in Melbourne

12 June 2025

As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, the Bupa Foundation is joining forces with The Funding Network Australia (TFN) to launch a powerful new initiative aimed at tackling two of the most urgent challenges of our time: health inequity and environmental degradation.

The event, titled “Healthy People, Healthy Planet,” will take place on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, at Bupa’s Melbourne headquarters and will be streamed nationally, making it accessible to supporters across Australia. This live crowdfunding event will shine a spotlight on grassroots social purpose organisations delivering breakthrough programs that directly relieve disadvantage while advancing environmental sustainability. From nature-based mental health interventions and sustainable food systems to community-led conservation and green job creation, the event aims to elevate high-impact initiatives at the intersection of human and environmental health.

Three selected non-profits will each pitch for an estimated $100,000+ in funding, with all donations matched dollar-for-dollar by the Bupa Foundation, effectively doubling the impact of every pledge made on the night. The event will also feature powerful storytelling, compelling community voices, and real-time giving - creating an electrifying atmosphere of collective action and shared purpose.

Catalysing Change Through Purposeful Collaboration

“Collaborations like this are critical to catalysing more funding into the grassroots sector,” said Kristen Lark CEO of The Funding Network. “Bupa Foundation’s leadership and investment ensure that high-potential, community-driven initiatives can thrive and scale at a time when Australia needs bold, local solutions to both social and environmental challenges. This event is about unleashing that potential.”

This partnership brings together two organisations with a shared commitment to meaningful, community-driven change. The Bupa Foundation is dedicated to helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world by supporting initiatives that improve people’s mental wellbeing and the environment. TFN complements this mission by connecting grassroots non-profits with the funding, visibility, and networks they need to grow, innovate, and deepen their impact.

A Platform for Grassroots Innovation and Impact

“Community organisations play a vital role in environmental conservation and promoting positive mental and physical health,” said Roger Sharp, Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer at Bupa Asia Pacific.“By supporting their passion, energy and local knowledge with additional funding, we can help create a healthier planet for healthier people while celebrating two decades of meaningful impact by the Bupa Foundation.”

Applications are now open to eligible grassroots organisations across Australia. The selection criteria focus on initiatives that deliver tangible relief to marginalised communities through environmentally focused approaches. Whether it’s urban greening projects in low-income areas or sustainability education for at-risk youth, applicants must demonstrate a clear theory of change, strong leadership, and measurable impact.

The deadline to apply is midnight, 8th July 2025. Full eligibility details and application forms are available here.

Bupa Foundation employees and TFN’s nationwide network of supporters are invited to attend either in person or virtually, and to take part in an uplifting evening of giving that exemplifies what’s possible when purpose meets partnership.

Together, we can create a future where both people and the planet thrive.
